BEAUTY COLUMN OCTOBER/NOVEMBER
After a beautiful month in October with people still out and about in early autumn clothing, we are no doubt in for a rude awakening as the cold harsh weather awaits wreaking havoc on our skin. Our summer tans are fading fast and the need for a healthy glow to give us a much needed boost, tempts us to revert back to bad habits.
Summer light is very golden and therefore flattering on the skin when wearing bronzers, but in winter the light is more blue which can make the skin look dull and flat - even a little dirty with the wrong shades. Steer towards a bronzer with a bit of warmth in such as peach or pink, or maybe swap it altogether for a natural cream blush which looks very fresh and healthy on the skin.
Keep your skin in check by exfoliating at least once a week to slough away the dead skin cells and revealing the new vibrant cells underneath. Skin-boosting serums are definitely the way forward for a bright, radiant glow. Try Chanel's Eclat Originel Serum containing Vitamin C to re-oxygenate the cells and brighten the complexion, or maybe their Hydramax + Active (£51) which creates a waterproofing barrier around skin cells, helping the skin's ability to regulate moisture.
Vitalumiere, £32, an anti-fatigue foundation from Chanel is one of my all time favourites. It is great for a tired complexion and delicate skin subject to discomfort. It is enriched with moisturising agents and is radiance boosting, containing light reflecting pigment and a combination of vitamins to erase signs of fatigue. The result is a luminous, visibly rested, naturally even and smoothed complexion with a satin finish and with the added bonus of SPF15.
Clinique have been very busy these past ten years working on their amazing new Repairwear Laser Focus Wrinkle and UV Damage Corrector (£35). Containing peptides and antioxidants, it repairs UV damage, prevents future damage and encourages cellular repair. After a 12 week trial on 600 ladies, it was comparable to 63% success of a wrinkle-reducing laser and is especially effective around the eyes and lips where the majority of fine lines can be found.
Also new to us this month is Clarins Vital-Light day and night cream (£56 & £59 respectively). Suitable for most skins it promotes radiance and combats the visible appearance of hyperpigmentation for a more even skin tone making it smoother. An expert anti-ageing day and night duo formulated to revive deep luminosity in the skin.
Moving on to your foundation, there are many products on the market today which give a wonderful
youthful radiance and Lancome have recently launched their Teint Miracle, £25. Its bare skin perfection allows skin to absorb natural light, creating a radiant and flawless complexion. Coupled with the Teint Miracle Concealer, £24 along with their Eclat Miracle Radiance Booster, £19.50 (use under or mixed with foundation), they will work together effortlesly giving you that youthful glow we all desire.
Benefit bring us a couple of cheeky products this season to brighten up our make-up bags and put a spring back in our step. A great gift idea and perfect for any girl's dressing table is the limited edition 'Her Name Was Glowla', £29.50. A complete kit for eyes, lips and cheeks it is everything you need to both conceal and accentuate. Containing a five-colour eye palette with brush, mascara, gloss and coral blush, it is compact enough to keep in your handbag to touch-up. Not only that, it contains their ever-popular Moon Beam and High Beam irridescent complexion enhancers. Be quick, when they're gone - they're gone!!
Another pretty illuminator from Benefit is their 'Girl Meets Pearl', £24.50. It is non-oily and suitable for all complexions and comes in a 'twist-up' tube. To be used all over the face mixed with foundation or as a highlighter on cheek/brow bones. Great for the party season to give you that extra zing!
TOP TIPS
Your skin changes colour throughout the year, so make sure that by the end of autumn you are still wearing the correct shade of foundation. There is nothing worse than dirty looking/orange skin. This season's look is natural.
Give tired/dehydrated skin a boost and treat yourself to a serum which penetrates deeper than your moisturiser. Used in conjuction with your moisturiser the skin is rehydrated and smoother and they also last twice as long.
Even though the bikini's are away for the winter, don't neglect to exfoliate your body and buff those feet. It keeps the skin youthful and firm and ready for next season's unveiling and rich moisturiser will prevent the skin from becoming dry and scaly in winter.
Keep hair and nails looking healthy with Elemis' Exotic Frangipani oil. Simply place into a bowl of warm water to melt the product, then massage into the affected areas and leave overnight for a deep treatment. Wash hair after treatment to see full benefit.
