What do you mean you cannot read it?!

Ok let me explain.

So I was in the middle of teaching a camp and one lady was telling another about a wonderful supplement she had found that promises instant weight loss.

Now as soon as I hear this my spider senses are awakened and I am smelling a rat, after 20 years studying nutrition and no sign of any wonder pills yet I am very much in doubt that this supplement is doing what they claim it is.

However I cannot rule it out until I have researched it properly and by this I do not mean a quick google search like ‘Linda’ from accounts.

Saying that though a google search is always great for a giggle and this product in particular I have to say google did not disappoint.

So checking out the testimonials I see it is being promoted by the rich and famous, specifically the famous names that are being paid to advertise it.

I guess when you are being paid for a job you cannot really say that it is not working can you?

Anyway once I got passed these reviews I came upon the real people using it.

The general views was that although some experienced less bloating no one had had a miraculous weight loss or new body and generally most was of the opinion that they had been conned.

So off I went to investigate this supplement from a scientific point of view.

What does it claim to do?

Claims to reduce your appetite and by turning into a gel in your stomach reducing the room for food without causing bloating.

It then claims to sweep through the digestive system and collecting food particles and toxins with a laxative affect.

Are there any credible studies out there to prove this?

No, don’t get me wrong there are studies of groups of 5 or 6 people (mainly related to its promotion financially) that are saying they had great results.

Well guess what if you paid me thousands of pounds for a quick quote of how well it worked id be tempted.

So what is the deal with this supplement?

Ok so in real terms it contains a natural dietary fibre called Glucomannan which is found in the roots of the Elephant Yam plant.

Fibre is essential to our diet and most of us are not getting enough of the stuff.

Fibre helps us to feel fuller for longer and does help clean the digestive tract along with helping you get rid of waste.

Fibre also lowers blood sugar so can help with diabetes or the prevention of getting it.

Fibre is found in vegetables, fruits, wholemeal bread and pulses (and they are much cheaper to buy).

This particular supplement also includes an array of Vitamin B, zinc, manganese and copper gluconate, these are also found in food naturally and the fact they are packing this supplement full of it is most probably because they assume you will not get enough due to your reduced appetite.

This is worrying as vitamin deficiencies can be serious and if you are deficient because you do not eat enough food in general this is a clear sign of an eating disorder.

Lastly the supplement is a gel that swells up in your stomach.

Sure this will trick your tummy to felling full but it also comes with a choking hazard and I would hate to see what it’s doing to your digestive tract.

Conclusion

For a short term fix this product may look tempting, but the only reason they expect you to lose weight is because you are eating less food.

I could have told you that already.

This also would help with bloating, the less you eat the less bloated you will be.

The problem with this supplement is that when you stop taking it ( it is not a long term use supplement) you appetite will increase, whereas if you had reduced your food intake naturally then your stomach would have adapted with you and you will be more likely to succeed.

There is no cheating your way to fat loss with potions and supplements, even those that go for theatre to have gastric bands put in will fail if they do not tackle the one thing that has got you into this place in the first place.

Work on your relationship with food, create a positive mindset and stop looking for short cuts and you will get there. Whilst those around you looking for magic bullets will continue to be stuck in the very cycle that makes them put on weight.
